The Wood
We use locally sourced West Country solid, chunky 2" oak as standard for this lovely piece which is full of interesting patterns and grain variations. Highly figurative timber with lots of contrasting tones results in a unique table every time - we may even add a little bow tie inlay if required! As with all our tables we could make this for you using other timbers such as ash or sweet chestnut (please do contact us for availability and more information). We make a point of wire brushing the wood prior to applying the finish oil to leave a lovely tactile feel and depth to the grain.
The Frame Style
We start with rough sawn 4”x4” solid West Country oak and machine smooth to create this stunning, substantial A frame style refectory table. The frame is hand jointed and using a classic oak peg can be assembled and disassembled with very little fuss. Available in natural oil finish or a variety of colours - the table shown is finished in ‘Marine Blue no.95.’ by Little Green Paint Co.

Your Questions Answered
Choosing from our collection of hand made tables and benches is a personal process, and questions are part of that journey. Here, we’ve answered some of the most common enquiries about the Mr Morley table, covering materials, finishes, sizing and the making process to help you commission with confidence.
Yes. Every Mr Morley is made to order in our Devon workshop, built to your specification from the ground up. Size, finish, frame colour and detailing are all tailored to you. Nothing leaves our workshop as a standard, off-the-shelf piece.
Quite a lot. The size is the obvious one — we’ll build to your exact dimensions. Beyond that, you can choose your finish (natural oil or painted frame), select a frame colour from the Little Greene Paint Company range, and even request the top have less or more ‘character’ and natural features depending on if you like the ‘clean’ look or the ‘as nature intended’ look. The frame profile itself is also adjustable — it can sit broader and squarer, or be pinched in at the top to create a more pronounced A-frame silhouette. If you have something else in mind, just ask.
Because your room isn’t standard. Most dining tables are designed for a median space and a median taste. A custom made dining table is built around your room, your proportions and your life. The fit is better, the quality is higher, and the result is something that feels like it belongs rather than something that was adapted to fit.
We use locally sourced, solid West Country oak as standard — chunky 2″ sections, highly figured, with contrasting tones and grain variations that make every table unique. It’s the kind of timber that gives a custom made oak dining table genuine character from the moment it arrives. Ash is also available on request.
Yes. Mr Morley’s A-frame can be hand-painted in any colour from the Little Greene Paint Company range. We’ll send you a paint chart to help you choose, and if you’ve already found a colour elsewhere, get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.
The design draws on classic Scandinavian refectory forms, but with the proportions and joinery scaled up for a more grounded, contemporary feel. Traditional hand joinery techniques are used throughout. It’s a proper piece of furniture — not flat-pack dressed up as bespoke.
We don’t publish a fixed size list, because the whole point is that we make it to suit you. Whether you need to seat 6 in a tight kitchen diner or 12 in a generous dining room, we’ll work out the right dimensions with you. Get in touch and we’ll start from your space.
As a guide, allow 8-12 weeks from order confirmation, depending on our current workshop schedule. If you have a deadline — a house move, a celebration — tell us early and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.
